Miler Treasurer and Director of the Bucks for Bernie’s Kids 24 Hour Relay, Steve Dowling, presented Coach Bernie Livingston with a check for $4,280 for Kennett High School Cross Country Team Uniforms. Bernie expressed his thanks as they have just ordered 80 uniforms for the teams and have already seen 61 athletes in preseason running. “This is a young team as we saw a lot of our team graduate last year, and I am looking forward to working with this group”, Bernie exclaimed.
The special guest at the run was Center Conway’s Biathlon Olympian Sean Doherty. Sean will be competing for Team USA in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Korea. Sean spoke about his training and hopes for the coming biathlon season. Great Glen Trails, along with the White Mountain Milers, Big Dave’s Bagels and Julbo, invite everyone to Great Glen Trails on Sunday, August 20, to run or walk in the Second Annual Great Glen 7km Trail Race to help defray the training costs for Sean. The race will take place on the beautiful single-track of Great Glen Trails at the base of the Mount Washington Auto Road.
“The whole event is really about coming out and showing support for Sean. It’s an Olympic year as well so there is even more focus on supporting him. He’s an inspiration to a lot of us here in the Valley with his hard work to be at the top level of his sport”, noted Paul Kirsch, Race Director for the event. 100% of the race proceeds will go to Sean to support his training. As a member of the US Biathlon Team, much of Sean’s training is covered, but some of his travel and other training equipment expenses are covered through fundraising efforts like this race. The race costs $20 to enter or $50 for a family. Online registration is available along with more information at whitemountainmilers.com and day of registration will also be available. The race starts at 9 AM and Doherty will be at there and is always happy to meet people, sign fan cards and talk about the sport he loves.
