On The Run 09/06/17
It was a beautiful day for the Memorial Hospital Maine Health Fun Run at StoryLand on Labor Day. Congratulations to all the runners who received a race t-shirt, finisher
medals, and a day pass to StoryLand. All proceeds from the run go to Believe in Books Literacy Foundation.
The Milers are on the move these days, heading out for vacations involving running, hiking, and, of course, eating. Marc and Jane Chauvin are hiking in Scotland including a climb up Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles at 4,413 ft. Gretchen Loeffler and Mary Willenbrock are headed to Scotland to hike the West Highland Way, about a 94 mile trek. Linda Comeau and Al Aldrich are hiking in the Austrian Alps and Italy’s Amalfi Coast. They’ve met people who know the Schneider Family, of course. Andrew Drummond and Hilary McCloy were in France “not racing, professional spectating” the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, a 103 mile race with about 10,000 metres of height gain. Dave and Kristen McDermott are headed to the same area of France where Dave is set to run the Tor de Geants, a 205 mile endurance trail run with, if I’m translating this right, 24,000 meters of height gain. Brian Otis and I are going to be hiking the Tor de Mont Blanc, about 100 miles and 10,000 meters in altitude. The White Mountain Milers; We Run the Valley, and the highlands, mountains, and glaciers.
I hope you signed up for the 32nd Annual White Mountain Milers Half Marathon but if you haven’t there’s still time. The race date is Sunday, October 29. Net Proceeds benefit the Gretchen B. Hatch Memorial Scholarship Fund. The race features a 5K, Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, and a Hand Cycle Division to choose from. This year, in addition to a race t-shirt, finisher medals, unlimited race photos by Harrigan Photos and post-race celebration at Sea Dog Brewing Company, and race awards, there will raffle cash prizes. Race Director Vince Vaccaro will be pulling bib numbers from a tumbler for the money; 2-$100 winners, 1-$300 winner, and 1-$500 winner! Anyone can win, all you need to do is register to run and be there at the finish!
Also new this year, there is a Military & 1st Responder discount of 20% and a Hand Cycle Division. There will also be the special Halloween Themed Runner Awards. Register before October 15 to guarantee a race t-shirt. If you can’t run this year, please volunteer for the race by contacting Christie Girouard at firstname.lastname@example.org. For more info and to register, go to wmmhalf.com.
Tuesday night running continues at Whitaker Woods. Informal and fun running with a group, 5:30 PM. People run or walk 2 or 3 miles and talk about Kevin Callahan afterward. Hope to see you there!
Congratulations to Terry Ballou for her double win at the Gaige McCue Memorial Scholarship 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, September 3. Terry won the race and also a $20 Gift Card to 7-Eleven North Conway for racing in her White Mountain Miler Singlet. Don’t forget to send your race photo and place results to email@example.com to claim your gift card.
