Small World!

On The Run      09/13/17

Fryeburg Academy first home cross country meet took place on Friday 9/15 at 5 p.m.

Saturday 10/17 will be Kennett Eagles first home meet.

The Millen Mile took place last Friday and Terry Livingston Ballou ran 5:42 for first woman and  Zac Swetaj took first in the male division in 4:36.  Congratulations to all participants who ran under the Friday Night Lights at the KHS Eagles first home game.

As of this writing, Dave and Kristen McDermott are together in Italy where Dave gave running the Tor de Geants, a 205 mile endurance trail run with, if I’m translating this right, 24,000 meters of height gain, a giant try.  Dave was 192k or 119 miles into his run, finished 17k of ascent and 17.5 descent and feeling ready for some rest. Dave says “lots of views, lots of rocks, and ultra companions” were the highlight of his Tor. Rest up, Dave!

Meanwhile, Brian Otis and I are halfway through our Tor de Mont Blanc hike, and have had sun, rain, sleet and snow for an amazing adventure. We were commenting about the people we’ve met from all over the world, making this a truly international hike. IMG_0558Monday, when carrying our adult beverages outdoors at the Italian Rifugio Bonatti, named for Italian mountaineer and adventurer Walter Bonatti, we ran into valley neighbors Missy and Carl Nelson, Carrianne Bradley, Bob Hull, Kim Lambert and Mike Dupuis! It truly is a small world!

Congratulations to Tim Livingston for placing 2nd overall and 1st in his age group at the Run to Fall 5k in Northwood. Tim won a gift card for 7-Eleven for placing while wearing his White Mountain Miler Singlet! Don’t forget to send your winning photos to Frank Holmes fbholmes2008@gmail.com.

Also congratulations to my daughter Laura Holtby who took on the Pitch Pine Challenge with teammate Helen Moody for a top, in the money, finish. I can’t get enough internet service for full results while hiking.
