wmmmtg2018

The White Mountain Miler Annual Meeting was held on Tuesday, March 6 at Tuckerman Brewing with about 60 members dining on pizza, sampling beer, and chatting with other new and old members.

Club President Marianne Jackson, still recovering from her bicycling accident, showed mad skills on her wheelie walker while running the meeting.  The highlight of the night was hearing from all the race directors about what races are on tap for 2018.

Joanne Daly spoke about the upcoming Feelin’ Good 5K and Chili Cook Off being held April 7.  Joann is hoping for 100 runners and walkers this year and has a special pricing for families and has a special team event. Register for this race early for a special prize. Stop in and sign up with Joann at Soyfire Candle on Main Street North Conway, contact Joann at  info@soyfirecandle.com, 603-662-8198.

Liz Goerss is the new director of the Cranmore Hill Climb. Thank you to Steve Dowling for his expertise with this event.  New to race directing, Liz has worked to set the date of the Climb, which will be on Sunday, July 1. This race is also a tribute to Jim Soroka and nominations are being taken for the recipient of the Jim Soroka. This award will be given to the person who most exemplifies the spirit, zest for life, volunteerism, coaching, encouragement, and joy that was Jim. Nominations can be made to club president Marianne Jackson, mjaxnmd@gmail.com.  Joe LaRue is also taking orders for the Soroka t-shirt that he designed.  Contact Joe at hikefishbike@gmail.com for all the “Jimspiration” you will need, Thanks, Joe.  Thank you, Liz, for stepping up to the race director challenge. You know Milers will be happy to help you where we can.

Terry Ballou has stepped up to take over the Bucks for Bernie 24 Hour Relay Race from Steve Dowling,  and she is hoping to add more teams and competition to the race. One way to achieve this is the offering of cash prizes and inviting more solo runners/walkers.  More race information will be posted soon on the Milers Website.

Terry took the floor again to speak of the Student Running Camp hosted by White Mountain Milers and  Tim Livingston. The camp prepares runners for their fall cross country season and helps to develop teamwork and more running fun.  Contact Tim at kimtimliv@yahoo.com for more info.

Tim is also the director of the White Mountain Milers  Julbo-Salomon Whitaker Woods Summer Series. The 5K Series begins on Tuesday, June 12, and will be held every Tuesday at 5:30.

Vince hopes to see the return of the very popular Limo Service for Relay Runners for the relay and half of the half.

A new race for TriTek Events is the Tunnel to Towers 5K set for Saturday July 14, an event that is close to Vince’s heart and supports our first responders and military who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty.

Chris Perley of the White Mountain Milers Gretchen B. Hatch Scholarship Committee reported 7 scholarships were awarded in 2017 to a total of $9,000 to deserving students at Kennett and Fryeburg.

Remember, if you’re in need of White Mountain Miler Gear, contact Frank Holmes at 447-4365 or email him at fholmesnaep@gmail.com.  Wear your gear in a race, place in the race, have your photo taken and with the finish information send it to Frank.  Frank has worked very hard on this program and it’s working!

The final order of business was the awarding of the coveted Mount Washington Road Race Entries.  The club earns these entries for volunteering the day of the race and anyone who lost out on the lottery, has volunteered for a Miler Event, and still wants to run up Mount Washington, can apply to receive one of these entries. The 20 spots were spoken for quickly and now the training begins.  Ashley Benes took over the volunteer job of herding volunteers from Steve Dowling. Steve did an outstanding job for many years and the club thanks him. Ashley is still looking for volunteers for the race, please message the milers if you can help.

Thank you to Tuckerman Brewery and their Servers for hosting the meeting and to EMS, Tuckerman, 7-Eleven, and Donna Cormier Therapeutic Massage for the ever popular raffle prizes!

Phew!  This is one hard working club!  All events and information can be found at whitemountainmilers.com.  Please be sure to sign up early for all events and please consider volunteering.
